Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you. 2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Thessalonians 1: 1—7)
Paul, Silas, and Timothy were so encouraged by the brothers and sisters in the church in Thessalonica. It is essential to see how Paul and his friends addressed the church. They said, TO THE CHURCH of Thessalonians IN GOD THE FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. It is essential to know that the CHURCH MUST BE IN GOD, THE FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
This is the foundation of the church. If the church is NOT founded on God the Father and Jesus Christ, it is a man-made church. Paul’s practice in writing his letters always includes this special salutation; GRACE AND PEACE to you. It is powerful to wish brothers and sisters this salutation every time we see them. These two words, GRACE, AND PEACE, exist together. Everyone needs grace and peace in life. Grace and peace give strength to the life of a believer. Grace gives strength and stability and provides assurance of God working in us.
Three things Paul and his companions are grateful for are his brothers and sisters in the Lord;
• Their WORK PRODUCED BY FAITH…This is important to take notice of for me today. Everything we do is not always done in faith. Everything we do for Jesus must produce by faith. Ministry starts with faith first, then work. We do not work for faith. WE believe; thus, we do, and not we do; therefore, we believe.
• Their LABOR PROMPTED BY LOVE. Here again, Paul takes my attention to the importance of our work, which must always be PROMPTED by love. If what I do in ministry is NOT prompted by love, it becomes a burden, not a joy.
• Their ENDURANCE INSPIRES BY THE HOPE in Christ Jesus. No one can endure in good works produced by faith and Labor prompted by love unless they are INSPIRED by the hope they have in Christ Jesus. We endure the works of faith and labor of love because Hope in Christ inspires us. When we lose that inspiration from Jesus, we lose hope, the labor of love means nothing but a burden, and our works are produced not by faith but by our fleshly desires.
These three elements are crucial in serving Jesus for me. FAITH, LOVE, AND HOPES in Christ are the motivation and the inspiration to serve Him. Without these three things, everything I do as a believer is in vain.
I will carefully examine my attitude in serving Jesus. Are my works and ministry to others are produced by my faith in Jesus, or is it a work of my flesh? Are my labor and ministry prompted because I love Christ, or is it because it is just something to do as a Christian? Am I enduring because I am INSPIRED by my love for Jesus, or is it because I don’t want anyone to think I am a quitter? I will make sure that my attitude in Serving Jesus is based on my FAITH, LOVE, AND HOPE that Christ inspires me daily.
Holy Spirit, thank you for reminding me of the right attitude in serving Christ. I ask that you continue to remind me daily to walk with Jesus in humility, faith, love, and hope. Please teach me how to do things not because I must but because you inspire me. Jesus, lead me to do ministry in Faith, Love, and hope. Thank you for reminding me of the attitude I must have to please you and do the things you ask me to do. Amen!
